Ever wonder who it was
that paints the famous
Green Bay Packers fence on
Lombardi Avenue across
from Lambeau Field? It is
Christopher Handler.
Handler is a self-employed
handyman who's year round
services include inside and
outside painting, varnishing
and staining, small repairs,
general snow blowing as
well as cleaning gutters and
garages, or hanging ceiling
fans or your Christmas
decorations.
A lifelong resident of
Green Bay, he graduated
from Green Bay East High
School in 1975. Handler
began his handyman
service in 1987.
How did Handler become
the Packer Fence Painter?
"An article had been put in
the paper regarding the sale
of the home and the new
owners were looking for
someone to continue the
tradition of painting the
fence. I knew I wanted to
do the job," Handler said. "I
answered the ad and began
painting the fence that year;
carrying on the tradition
and making this the 23rd
year this fence has been
painted."
Handler said he does it for
the fans. He loves seeing all
the joy it brings. "I love
to walk through the
crowds on game day and
join all the excitement
and tailgate parties." |
